Directors Sought!

The Wilmington Drama League is looking for play submissions for:

The Ruby Stanley One Act Festival (writers too!)

Directors should send scripts and overviews of their production plans to Kathy@wdleague.org. Submissions are due Dec. 5. Auditions will be in mid-December, and the festival is Feb. 10 -11. The festival features both published plays and original works by local playwrights and culminates in two nights of performances at which audience members vote for their favorite play.

The Upcoming 2023 - 2024 season

The Drama League is also seeking submissions for the 2023-24 season. Directors should send scripts (if available), overviews of their production plans, and this form to Kathy@wdleague.org. Submissions are Jan. 1.

WDL especially seeks to produce works written and directed by diverse artists and production staff, and told from a place of authenticity.

New show announced in WDL lineup

The Drama League would like to announce a change to its season lineup. We were very excited at the prospect of presenting an important and relevant piece of theatre called The Scottsboro Boys in January of 2023. Unfortunately, despite an extensive search by WDL and the director of Scottsboro, Darryl Thompson, we were not able to cast the number of performers needed to appropriately portray this wonderful musical.

The good news is that Darryl Thompson and WDL have found an alternative production, called Street Dreams: The Inner City Musical (Book/Lyrics: Eve Merriam; Music: Helen Miller) Street Dreams, based on one of the most banned books of its time, is a revue-style musical that humorously follows the lives of 8 citizens on a block in an un-named American city as they bluntly deal with love, sexuality, racism, corruption and poverty in the 1970s. This hauntingly relevant, energetic and poignant portrayal of the city's urban landscape is told all through the medium of twisted Mother Goose Fairy Tales!

Production dates are Jan. 27-Feb. 5, 2023. Tickets are on sale now.
