Wilmington Drama League 2023/2024 Season

The Wilmington Drama League's 2023-2024 season will showcase a variety of shows ranging from Broadway favorites to family favorites and hit musicals. And, as with every Wilmington Drama League season, it's one of the most affordable tickets in town.

September 15 - 24

Chess features a winning combination of music, lyrics and book by members of ABBA and Tim Rice (of The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita fame, among many others) while chronicling a love story amidst cold war politics and international chess competition.

October 20 - 29

Misery, based on the nail-biting bestseller by Stephen King, tells a gripping gothic-tinged tale of a writer who is at the mercy of his number one fan; and she’s not happy!  A great show for goose bumps just in time for Halloween.

November 9 - 12

JB, winner of the Tony Award for Best Play and Pulitzer Prize for Drama, tells the story of a millionaire who loses it all but finds out what’s really important in life.  The Pulitzer Prize committee: “Certainly no other play of this or many seasons has attempted to come to grips with so large and universal a theme and succeeded in stating it in terms more eloquent, moving, provocative' than JB.”

December 8 - 28

Pure imagination rules in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a scrumdidilyumptious musical faithful to Roald Dahl’s original story.  Giggles and lemon drops, along with amazing set pieces and a catchy score round out this sweet family treat!  And remember, “Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.” – Willy Wonka

Jan 26 -Feb 4, 2024

9 to 5: the Musical, nominated for 4 Tony and 15 Drama Desk Awards, is based on the hit movie, features a vibrant Dolly Parton score, and tells the uplifting story of working women standing up for themselves against the male dominated management, and winning!

FEBRUARY 9 - 10, 2024

The Ruby Stanley One-Act Festival is named for a late long time Wilmington Drama League volunteer, board member and costume mistress. The production, which frequently features original works by local playwrights, culminates with a two-day festival in which audience members vote for their favorite play.  The winner then represents the Wilmington Drama League at the state, and often regional, level.

March 8 - 17, 2024

Kinky Boots has inspired audience-goers to change the world by changing their minds.  Winner of six Tony awards, including a score by Cyndi Lauper (who also won a Grammy). Chock full of glitter and glam, this ‘sole’-ful musical is a celebration of life and of unlikely friends!

April 11 -14, 2024

The Psychic is a murder mystery comedy that features a murderous husband, a ditzy mistress, a mobster and a down on his luck mystery writer who may or may not be psychic.  "The play's clever, Pirandello-esque twists make for a pleasant divertissement... satisfyingly unpredictable." -  LA Times

May 10 - May 19, 2024

The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, based on the book by award-winning author Rick Riordan, tells a story involving a 12 year old hero, Greek gods, a quest, and mystical lightning.  The multi Drama Desk Award nominated Lightning Thief features a musically diverse score with terrific ballads and a bunch of catchy up-tempo numbers that will entertain the whole family.

June 14 - June 23, 2024

Bonnie and Clyde, the Musical follows the unlikely love story that captured America’s attention during the Great Depression.  Combining rockabilly, blues and gospel music, the impressive score by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, The Civil War) beautifully compliments the story of the tragic star crossed lovers.
