Wilmington Drama League is hosting auditions for its upcoming production of Kinky Boots, which will perform March 8-10 and March 15-17. Tentatively, rehearsals will begin January 8th.

 

We are seeking a dynamic and diverse ensemble of actors for WDL’s production of Kinky Boots. Wilmington Drama League is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusivity in its work and encourages performers of all ethnicities, races, backgrounds, gender expressions, and ages to audition.

WHAT TO PREPARE:

Please prepare 32 bars of a pop/rock or funk song or a contemporary up tempo musical theater piece. We just want to see something that you love to sing and makes you happy, which will make us happy. Please bring sheet music as an accompanist will be provided.

Character Breakdown:

 

*We are auditioning for two male-presenting children’s roles ages 7-10 to play Young Charlie and Young Lola/Simon*

Charlie Price

A bit confused, a bit unfocused, a hero hiding under a man who has lost his way and is on his hero’s journey to remember who he is.

 

Lola/Simon

A prize fighter's physique draped in satin. A talented drag queen with a killer voice and winning ways. Lola is an icon, Lola is a legend, and Lola is the moment. Now come on now.

 

Lauren

Quirky, zany, and strong working-class girl. Intuitive comedic instincts a plus.

 

Nicola

Charlie's long-term girlfriend. Driven, uncompromising.

 

Don

Burly hypermasculine bear of a factory worker. Sings up to D5 for the finale.

 

Pat

Officious office manager who will let loose her wild side when allowed. Lola's love interest.

 

Trish

Factory worker with a husband and kids to worry over.

 

George

Factory manager keeping up traditions. Reserved.

 

The Angels

The drag performers who populate The Blue Angel Nightclub. Tenor Back Up Singers up to C5, Featured Angel singers up to C#5

 

Mr. Price

Charlie's father.                                                                                                                     

 

Simon Sr.

Lola's father. An unforgiving tower of anger.

 

Harry

A contemporary of Charlie's but his opposite. Successful, self-aware and confident.

 

Richard Bailey

Nicola's boss. An overtly attractive and successful man.

 

Young Charlie

Charlie as a seven-year-old boy. Lost, quiet, reflective.

 

Young Lola/Simon

Lola as a ten-year-old boy who already knows he's destined to wear high heels.

 

Featured Ensemble

We are seeking a diverse and dynamic ensemble of actors to play Hooligans, Factory Workers, Pub Patrons, Photographers, Club Patrons to be onstage throughout most of the show.
